As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” an online memorial lesson titled “Unbreakable: Heroes of Our Communities” was held, bringing together young people from the Soledar and Drohobych communities.
The event provided an opportunity to collectively honor the memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders, to remember the heroes who gave their lives for our country’s freedom and independence, and to emphasize the importance of preserving the memory of their heroic deeds.
The event began with the singing of the National Anthem of Ukraine and a moment of silence for all those who died defending Ukraine.
During the lesson, attention was focused on the defense of Soledar and the figure of Oleksandr Matsievsky—a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who became one of the symbols of the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian warrior. His courage and loyalty to Ukraine until the very last moment of his life serve as a reminder of the true price of freedom.
An important part of the gathering was the sharing of stories about the heroes of the Soledar and Drohobych communities. Behind every name lies a human story—a family, friends, dreams, and unfulfilled plans. These are people they knew personally—people they studied with, worked with, and lived alongside—who were an integral part of their communities’ lives.
The participants watched the video “From Children’s Hearts to the Heroes of Ukraine” and listened to poetry recitations. Through drawings, poems, and heartfelt words, the children expressed their gratitude to those who have defended and continue to defend Ukraine.
The lesson concluded with a literary composition about peace, remembrance, and hope. Its central theme is a future for Ukraine in which children can learn, dream, and wake up to peaceful mornings in a free country.
Memory knows no borders. Stories of Ukrainian courage unite communities from different corners of Ukraine, help preserve the bond between generations, and remind us of our shared responsibility—to remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
