Another transit point has been opened in Kharkiv region for IDPs from Donetsk Oblast. Some of the people evacuated by volunteers from frontline communities in the region continue to be hosted at the hub in Dnipropetrovs'k region.
On August 27, the head of the Donetsk regional state administration and head of the regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, met in Pavlohrad with the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, Humanitarian Coordinator Matthias Schmale and representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Ukraine.
Together, they inspected the conditions of stay of people in the transit hub, discussed the support of international partners for its work, as well as the functioning of the new transit point in Kharkiv region.
Vadym Filashkin thanked the international partners for their constant attention to the problems and needs of Donetsk Oblast residents and for their consistent cooperation with the regional authorities. He also emphasized the importance of the UN agencies' support in the evacuation process, operation of transit points and assistance to internally displaced persons in safer regions of the country.
"We cannot overestimate the importance of transit points, which are a key part of the evacuation process from Donetsk Oblast. Under the current conditions, when the situation in the region is constantly deteriorating due to enemy attacks, such assistance is critical," said Vadym Filashkin.
The participants of the meeting also agreed to further cooperate in strengthening humanitarian support for IDPs, refugees and vulnerable groups. It was noted that international support allows not only to meet the immediate needs of people, but also creates the basis for long-term solutions.
