Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Shevchenko held a working meeting with the heads of special educational institutions of regional subordination.
During the meeting, the results of the 2024–2025 academic year were summarized, and the features of organizing the educational process in a distance format under martial law were discussed, particularly for children with special educational needs.
The heads of the institutions reported on individual approaches to learning, the use of modern digital platforms and technologies, and the provision of correctional and developmental services – in particular, classes with speech therapists, defectologists, and psychologists.
The teaching staff of special schools actively supports the psycho-emotional state of students, implements educational work aimed at socialization, the formation of life skills, and preparing students for independent living. Special attention is paid to career guidance.
As of May 2025, there are 7 special schools operating in the region, with 796 students enrolled. The educational process is supported by 320 teaching staff. Education is conducted in accordance with state standards, taking into account the individual needs of each child.
The results of the meeting confirmed the effectiveness of the work of special educational institutions in the region, even under martial law. Despite the challenges, the educational process continues, and children with special educational needs are provided with the necessary support and conditions for development. This has been made possible by the coordinated work of all participants in the educational process.
