An important cultural and historical event took place in Kyiv at the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide: “The Nadazov Greeks: Paths of Identity,” organized and conducted on the initiative of the public organization “Nadazov Greeks: Urumi and Rumei.”

The event combined two components: a multimedia exhibition and an open dialogue between experts and representatives of the Greek community about the history, memory, and present day of the Nadazov Greeks.

The key point of the event was the narrative that in modern conditions it is extremely important to publicly rethink the consequences of the violent expulsion of Urums and Rumii from Crimea in 1778-1780, as well as informing the general public, both in Ukraine and abroad, about the culture and bitter experience of the Nadazov Greeks, who are still suffering catastrophic losses as a result of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, these are two parallels between the tragedies of the 18th and 21st centuries.

Donetsk region is a unique and multifaceted region where numerous cultures, traditions, and languages intertwine. National diversity is an integral part of its historical and cultural landscape. Therefore, our urgent task is to preserve our local identity so that our descendants know their roots, understand their role in preserving the national heritage, and shaping the cultural unity of the country.

The event was attended by representatives of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Donetsk Regional Educational and Methodological Center for Culture.
