Own Business: How Employment Service Support Helped Turn a Business Idea into Reality

Published 28 July 2025 year, 14:49

The modern pace of life often leaves little room for reflecting on personal dreams or career ambitions. We grow used to what’s stable—even if it’s not what we truly want—and keep postponing change. But positive change doesn’t happen on its own — it must be initiated.

That’s exactly what Arkadii Pavlenko from Sloviansk did. Since 2015, he had been producing plywood and wooden boards. Over time, it became clear that a new idea and financial support were needed for further business development.

The entrepreneur turned to the Employment Service, where he learned about the “Own Business” grant program. After winning the microgrant competition, Arkadii used the funds to purchase equipment necessary to open a retail shop — shelving, a cash register, and display units. But the support from the Employment Service didn’t stop there.

According to the program’s conditions, grant recipients must create new jobs. Arkadii reached out to the service’s recruiters, who helped him find suitable candidates. As a result, two unemployed women, Olena and Angela, were hired and got the jobs they had long been dreaming of. The entrepreneur also benefited from state financial support — a reimbursement of the unified social contribution for employing them.

“Anyone can build their own future,” Arkadii believes. “The key is not to be afraid to ask for help. The ‘Own Business’ program and the employment service specialists helped me take an important step in growing my business.”

The Employment Service continues to support those exploring new ventures, striving for change, and aiming to create jobs for others — because change starts with action, and action starts with reliable support.
