As part of the “Ethno-Toloka: Unity in Traditions” project, the Vuhledar community is launching an online culinary forum titled “Ascension Day with the Aroma of Borscht.”
It is in the village of Bohoyavlenka, part of the Vuhledar community, that a unique tradition has long existed: preparing a special green borscht with tomatoes on Ascension Day. Today, its recipe and preparation process are recognized as an element of the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of the Donetsk region.
With the aim of promoting authentic cuisine and preserving culinary heritage, the Vuhledar community is announcing a week-long culinary forum and invites residents of the Volnovakha district to become co-creators of this great endeavor!
Forum participants are invited to share the treasures of their family cuisine.
Everything matters to us:
🔹recipes for the Feast of the Ascension: tell us how you prepare the traditional ritual cookies “drabinki” or other festive dishes;
🔹your unique family borscht: vegetarian, beetroot, red with cabbage, green with nettles or sorrel—every recipe matters;
🔹dishes served with borscht: share your secrets for making fluffy doughnuts, homemade beet kvass, or your signature canned fried onions.
You can fill out the online form at the link: https://forms.gle/UUkky2xav5XUiKWVA
The recipe collection will take place throughout the week—from May 15 to 21. On the forum’s final day, which coincides with Ascension Day, the organizers will summarize the results and announce the number of folk cuisine gems collected.
All submissions will be included in a unique collection of recipes for borscht and traditional dishes, which will become part of the cultural chronicle of the Volnovakha district.
Let’s preserve the taste of home together!
