As part of National Accessibility Week, the cast of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater (Mariupol) held a charity performance of the play “The Boundary” at the Transcarpathian Academic Regional Puppet Theater “Bavka” in Uzhhorod.

To ensure accessibility, Ukrainian sign language interpretation was provided for people with hearing impairments. Representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (UTOG) joined the event. The play was interpreted into sign language by the organization’s chairwoman, Nataliia Buletsa.

The play “The Line,” directed by Canadian director Christopher Morris, served as an example of how theater can be open and accessible to every audience member. After all, accessibility in culture is not just about physical access to a venue, but also about the opportunity to fully see, hear, feel, and be part of a shared cultural space.

For our theater, it is important to create an environment of equal dialogue, mutual understanding, and shared emotional experience, where art has no limitations or barriers.

This performance was an important step in supporting inclusive art and upholding the principles of equal access to cultural life for everyone.

Accessibility is when you can see and hear the performance.
