As of August 31, 2026, nearly 93,000 people, including 4,804 children, reside in the territory of Donetsk Oblast controlled by Ukrainian authorities.
The progress of the evacuation in the Donetsk region was discussed during a regular briefing at the regional state administration, attended by representatives of the Department of Social Protection and the Children’s Services Agency.
There are still 40,100 residents living in the Kramatorsk community, 28,300 in the Sloviansk community, and 7,400 in the Oleksandrivka community. These are the communities with the largest populations.
According to the Children’s Services Department, 1,500 minors remain in the Kramatorsk community, and just over 2,000 children remain in the Sloviansk community.
There are 350 children remaining in five settlements across the three communities where the forced evacuation of families with children is ongoing. In the Kramatorsk community, where such an evacuation has been ordered, 341 children live; seven children remain in certain areas of Sloviansk; and two children remain in the Novodonetsk community.
Over the past week, 81 children were evacuated from those communities where families with children are being forcibly evacuated. Sixty-seven children were evacuated from the Kramatorsk community, 12 from the Sloviansk community, and 2 from the Novodonetsk community. In total, 352 children were evacuated in August.
The vast majority of families who volunteer to be evacuated from dangerous areas have a place to go. During the first two days of September, an average of 250 people per day passed through the transit center in Kharkiv Oblast. And in August, 445 evacuees from Donetsk were provided with free housing in other regions. Among them were 163 residents with limited mobility. Fifteen regions of Ukraine actively participated in the free housing program in August. Charitable foundations and organizations are providing significant assistance.
