Six students from educational institutions in the Donetsk region represented Ukraine at the prestigious Connecticut Invention Convention in the United States.

Their participation in the exhibition was made possible by the Ukraine Invention Convention program, which is implemented in collaboration with the American Connecticut Invention Convention and Ukrainian partners.

Following training and selection within the program, participants presented their own innovative developments in the fields of safety, inclusion, ecology, artificial intelligence, and energy sustainability:

Stepan Zots, a first-year student at the Kramatorsk Vocational College of Technology and Design, developed the concept of the Safe Signal smart bracelet for people with hearing impairments. The device will alert the wearer to an air raid alarm via vibration and light signals, and will also be able to send an SOS signal with geolocation in case of danger;

Yaroslava Gondar, a student at the Sloviansk Pedagogical Lyceum, developed a Savonius wind turbine that operates even in light winds. The invention helps restore water circulation and oxygenate the water, maintaining the balance of aquatic ecosystems;

Timofiy Melnyk, a student at the “Academic” General Secondary Education Center of the Kramatorsk City Council, created Remi—a computer assistant that reminds users to take breaks while studying and working;

Mykita Telichko, a student at Lyceum No. 2 of the Pokrovsk City Council, presented a project for learning sign language using computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies;

Dmytro Fil, a student at Lyceum No. 2 of the Pokrovsk City Council, developed “Factoryx”—an AI-based system for automatically verifying the accuracy of information and countering disinformation;

Nikita Lamanov, a student at Educational Complex No. 1 of the Pokrovsk City Council, created the MitKin lamp—a multifunctional device that combines a light source, a power bank, and a solar panel, controlled via a mobile app. The invention was designed for use during prolonged blackouts to help people maintain access to light, power, and communication. Nikita became a finalist in the program and earned the right to represent Ukraine at an international exhibition, but was unable to participate in the trip to the U.S. due to taking a national multi-subject exam.

During their trip to the U.S., our young inventors interacted with peers from around the world, learned about international experiences in the field of invention, and participated in a ceremony honoring the best student innovation projects.

Participation in the program demonstrated the high potential of young people in the Donetsk region, the effectiveness of the region’s educational institutions, and the professionalism of the teachers and mentors who help talented students develop research skills, bring their own ideas to life, and achieve success even under the difficult conditions of wartime.
