On April 23, 2022, Russian troops shelled 12 settlements in Donetsk region, targeting civilians with aircraft, rocket launchers, Grad multiple launch rocket systems, tanks, and heavy artillery.
In the village of Novoselivka-3, enemy shelling took the life of 17-year-old Serhiy Honcharuk.
Serhiy was a third-year student at the Toretsk Professional Lyceum and planned to become an electric and gas welder. He was an active, energetic young man who enjoyed sports.
On April 23, 2022, Serhiy and his brother Anatoliy went to the well to fetch water. At that moment, the enemy opened fire. The boys did not return home for two hours. Their relatives went looking for them and found the young man dead. His 23-year-old brother disappeared without a trace.
“Serhiy was gentle and sensitive. He was an incredibly kind boy. He respected his elders and protected and helped those in need,” said his mother, Svitlana Honcharuk, about her son.
His relatives buried him in the garden near their home.
Serhiy is survived by his mother Svitlana, brothers Eduard, Anton, and Volodymyr, and sisters Polina and Varvara.
