Chief Sergeant Dmytro Kyianenko was killed on September 18, 2022, while in captivity in Olenivka: a mortar fragment pierced his neck. He was just two months away from turning 26.
He was born in Urzuf. Since 2003, he attended the local school, practiced martial arts and music. After the 9th grade, he entered the Mariupol Construction Vocational College, and later studied at Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics.
He served under contract with the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade; later pursued a master’s degree and joined the Donetsk Border Detachment. He lived in Mariupol. In 2020, he received his diploma and planned to study law.
A few days before the invasion, he insisted that his family leave; on February 22, 2022, he said goodbye. He defended Mariupol as part of the border guard. On May 19, by order, he left Azovstal and went into captivity; he was wounded and held in Olenivka. Posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, 3rd Class. Buried in the village of Rozhniv, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He is survived by his wife, son, parents, and younger brother.
