Soldier Volodymyr Onyshchenko died on March 20, 2022, while defending his hometown of Mariupol. He was fatally wounded in a battle with the occupiers near Kirov Square. He was 21 years old.
Volodymyr was born and raised in Mariupol. After school, he graduated from a local technical college. He then enrolled in a correspondence course at Berdiansk State Pedagogical University, majoring in IT technologies. He worked for a contractor at the Azovstal plant. He was interested in computers and cars. He collected small model cars.
In November 2021, he signed a contract with the National Guard of Ukraine. He served in military unit 3057. At first, he was a driver, then a gunner in the armored vehicle group of the logistics company. With the start of the full-scale invasion, he and his comrades bravely defended their hometown from the enemy.
“My son was a very good person. Kind, sensitive, responsible, reliable! Volodya is my pride, my life, my universe! I love him very much and miss him!” said Kateryna Drymlyuk.
The Mariupol native was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree.
Volodymyr is survived by his mother.
