28-year-old soldier Bohdan Kvitko, callsign “Pion,” was killed on November 18, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission near the city of Bakhmut.
He sustained fatal injuries as a result of enemy mortar shelling.
Bohdan was born in the village of Terny, Kramatorsk district. As a child, he moved with his family to Luhansk region. He studied at School No. 4 in Kreminna, later enrolling at the Kharkiv Institute of Personnel Management, where he settled. He worked as a barista in coffee shops. In 2021, he entered the second year of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, as he dreamed of becoming a lawyer.
On February 24, 2022, he began volunteering with like-minded friends in Kharkiv. Later, he joined the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the 77th Separate Airmobile Brigade as a rifleman-sniper.
“Bohdan bravely fulfilled his duty as a citizen of Ukraine. He was a great patriot and always said: ‘If not me, then who will defend us?!’ and ‘I will return to Kreminna before you.’ He loved life, and that is why he gave his life for his family, loved ones, and friends,” his mother said.
The paratrooper was laid to rest at the Alley of Glory of Cemetery No. 18 in Kharkiv.
Bohdan is survived by his wife Antonina, mother Tetiana Volodymyrivna, and brother Dmytro.
