On 16 March 2022, during the defense of his native Mariupol, Senior Soldier Ihor Krasnobryzh, callsign Kozatskyi, was killed. Ihor and two of his comrades were caught in an enemy ambush. While covering his brother-in-arms, he was shot in the leg; the bullet hit an artery. He died on the spot due to massive blood loss. A day earlier, he had turned 27.
Ihor was born and raised in Mariupol and loved his city deeply. He studied at Mariupol State University and joined the Azov Regiment in 2014. He fought in the Anti-Terrorist Operation, including the Shyrokyne offensive, and later actively engaged in civic activities. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Ihor returned to Azov as a senior mortar gunner.
Ihor’s body was returned to his family five months later, and he was cremated.
He was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” (3rd Class).
Ihor is survived by his parents, his wife, and his daughter.
