Junior Lieutenant Oleksandr Borovyi, known by the call sign "Bur," was killed on December 30, 2024, near the village of Rozdolne in the Volnovakha district. While covering his comrades in battle, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of an enemy FPV drone attack. He was 36 years old.
Oleksandr was born in the city of Pokrovsk. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the National Mining University in the city of Dnipro, majoring in Computer Science. He was also passionate about football and basketball.
In 2010, Oleksandr was drafted into the army and joined the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, which was stationed in Dnipro. After his service, he lived there for a while before returning to Pokrovsk. He first worked as the head of the computer department at "Ecomarket," and in 2013–2014, he joined a partner division of Nova Poshta. He also tried working as a sales representative, but in 2017 officially became an operator at Nova Poshta.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling in his grandfather’s car.
"We traveled to Berdiansk, Avdiivka, and the Kinburn Spit. He also loved quiet pastimes—movies, games. He adored his cat, a little black kitten he named Pirozhok," said his father, Viktor Yevhenovych.
Oleksandr was mobilized at the end of December 2023. He completed extensive officer training and joined the 23rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. In 2024, the brigade was deployed to defensive positions near Pokrovsk. Bur became a platoon commander. For three months, he and his comrades held back the enemy’s advance in the Pokrovsk sector.
"He was very optimistic, cheerful, and loved to socialize. He never saw people as bad—at most, just quirky. He liked Nova Poshta because he enjoyed working with people and because everything there was honest, orderly, and by the book. He quickly made friends with both colleagues and clients. Even after he was mobilized, for a whole year clients and coworkers kept sending him greetings. He did really well. His supervisor wanted to recommend him for the position of manager at a new branch that was about to open. Sasha was planning to grow his career there...
The guys who came to the funeral said it was a drone attack. They said Sasha saved his comrades at the cost of his own life. He was well-prepared. Thanks to Nova Poshta, he had good gear—helmet, body armor, tactical accessories. He was proud of it and said no one else had such cool stuff. But—it didn’t save him," shared his mother, Iryna Oleksandrivna.
Bur was laid to rest with honors on the Alley of Glory in the city of Samar, Dnipropetrovsk region, where his parents now live.
He is survived by his older brother, Kostiantyn, who is also defending Ukraine on the front lines.
At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform remember the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
