Senior Sailor Eduard Chyrko was killed on March 16, 2022, in the battle for his native Mariupol in Donetsk region. He was 30 years old.
He was born and raised in Mariupol. Eduard graduated from the O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy and for some time worked at “Azovstal.”
During the full-scale war, he served under contract in the 501st Separate Marine Battalion of the Ukrainian Navy; before 2022, he had also taken part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation. At the time of the invasion, he was a senior mechanic-driver.
“He was the best husband, the soul of the company, always easy to connect with. He loved and protected his family dearly. He was brave, loyal to his oath, and fought to the very end for Ukraine’s Independence and for Mariupol. Forever in our hearts,” — recalled his former wife, Valeriia Malyshko.
Eduard was laid to rest at the Chornomorske Cemetery in Mykolaiv region. He is survived by his father, other relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
