Four-year-old Dominika Golyakova died on March 12, 2022, in Mariupol. She went outside with her mother to a bonfire near their house when the shelling began. A piece of shrapnel hit her in the head, and she died instantly. Her mother's legs were torn off, and she died in the hospital a day later.
The family was hiding in a high-rise building near School No. 66. A boy who was standing nearby was also killed in the same shelling.
Dominika was the only child of Natalia and Artur, a bright, active, and inquisitive girl.
“Domik” — that's what they affectionately called her at home. She was the youngest in the nursery, a radiant, giggly, blond ball of energy who didn't walk, but ran, helping and tidying up, her teachers recall.
Dominika is survived by her father, aunt, grandmother, and grandfather.
