24-year-old soldier Andrii Orlovskyi, call sign “Gustav,” was killed on September 24, 2024, near the city of Vuhledar.
He sustained fatal injuries during a mortar attack in battle with the occupiers.
Andrii was born in the city of Lyman. In 2017, he graduated from Lyman Gymnasium. He was passionate about football and played for the local youth sports school. Since childhood, he had been a devoted fan of the Shakhtar Donetsk football club.
In 2018, he moved to Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia region, where he was drafted for compulsory service into the 101st Security Brigade of the General Staff.
With the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Andrii voluntarily joined the defense of his country. He served in the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of gunner in the motorized infantry platoon of the 4th Motorized Infantry Battalion “Vedmedi” (“Bears”). He defended the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk fronts. In March 2024, he was wounded and awarded the distinction “For Wounds.”
“Andrii was truly a very brave person — not only in war but also in life. He made responsible and confident decisions without hesitation, regardless of difficulties or others’ opinions. He dreamed of settling down and living in the picturesque Ukrainian Carpathians,” — said his father, Oleksii.
The defender was laid to rest at the Lisove Cemetery in Kyiv.
Andrii is survived by his parents and brother.
