Junior Lieutenant Dmytro Kuryachyi was born on June 3, 1985, in the village of Kalynove. He obtained a higher education degree from Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University. For most of his life, he worked as an electrician at a mine. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing. He dreamed of having a daughter and owning his own home.
After being mobilized, Dmytro joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Initially, he served in the 223rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment named after the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, and was later transferred to the 25th Separate Airborne Sicheslav Brigade. He held the position of commander of the 2nd Parachute Platoon, 15th Parachute Company, 4th Parachute Battalion. His callsign was Taksyst (Taxi Driver).
"We met in the army. He was, is, and will be the best husband, father, son, and brother. He is our everything, and it hurts us deeply that we lost him. Dmytro will forever remain in our memories and in our hearts! It hurts so much to hear the words: the war brought us together — the war tore us apart," wrote the defender's wife Romana, who also serves in the military.
Dmytro Kuryachyi fell on June 15, 2025, near the village of Poltavka in Donetsk Oblast. He received a fatal wound while rescuing his brothers-in-arms. The defender was 40 years old.
"Dima was a loving son, my pillar of support. He cared for everyone around him. This is a painful loss not only for me, but for all relatives, loved ones, and friends," said his mother, Olha.
"We were close in age, so we were always together. Dima was an older brother not just in words: he constantly helped and offered advice. He was the godfather to our eldest son. No one will ever fill his absence; it is very hard without him," added his brother Serhiy.
Dmytro Kuryachyi was awarded the "For the Defense of Ukraine" distinction.
The defender was buried on Alley of Glory No. 3 in the city of Stryi, Lviv region.
He is survived by his wife Romana, stepsons Artem and Danylo, mother Olha, and brother Serhiy.
