29-year-old Senior Soldier Andrii Alekseienko, call sign “Medoid”, was killed on October 17, 2023, near Ivanivka, Kharkiv region. He held his ground against an enemy tank assault until the very end; his comrades were able to recover his body only three days later.
Andrii was from Kostiantynivka, and spent his childhood in Molocharka. He played the accordion and synthesizer, and was fond of drawing. He trained as an electric gas welder and, in 2022, graduated from Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs with a degree in law enforcement. He worked as a police officer.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Andrii obtained a paramedic certificate, rescued the wounded, evacuated his family to safety, and joined the Defense Forces of Ukraine. He served in the “Liut” Regiment of the National Police, later in the Special Unit “Artan” of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, and took part in missions on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island. “Who else if not me!” — he used to tell his family.
He was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, and the Distinction “For Combat Merit.”
Andrii was buried at the Lisove Cemetery in Kyiv. He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, brothers, and sisters.
