Galyna Koshkina: Remembering a Victim of Russia’s War Against Ukraine

In the evening of August 22, 2023, the Russian army shelled the village of Torske in the Lyman community. Galyna Koshkina was killed in the attack, while her mother, Nina, was beside her. They were sitting on a bench near their house. An enemy shell exploded just a few meters away from the mother and daughter.

Galyna Koshkina was 66 years old. She was born and raised in Donetsk region. She attended school in the village of Torske. She worked as a saleswoman in a grocery store. In her final years, she was retired. She took care of her household, tended the garden and vegetable patch, and helped raise her grandchildren.

“Our mother was a very decent and friendly person. I don't know a single person who would say anything bad about her,” said Olha, Galyna Koshkina’s daughter-in-law.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion, Galyna Oleksiivna’s family evacuated to Kirovohrad region. Galyna and her mother also lived there for some time, but in the summer they decided to return and see what was happening in their native village...

Galyna Koshkina and her mother were buried in the village of Rivne, Kirovohrad region, where their relatives had relocated.

Galyna is survived by her children and grandchildren.

At 9:00 a.m. — a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the “Memorial: Killed by Russia” platform commemorate the residents of Donetsk region who were killed by Russian forces.
