Nina Usachova, 82, died on April 5, 2022, during an artillery attack on the Livoberezhny District of Mariupol. A piece of shrapnel struck her in the back. A neighbor held her hand and said a prayer, but Nina died almost immediately.
Due to the constant shelling, they were unable to bury her right away. Her body was left near the house, and after further strikes, it was almost completely burned. Later, her daughter and son-in-law gathered her remains to bury her in a suburban cemetery.
Nina was originally from the village of Blystova in the Chernihiv region. In 1957, she moved to Mariupol, where she worked as a milling machine operator at a machine shop and later as a passport officer. She knew every house in the neighborhood, helped people, and received many certificates of merit and letters of thanks. Even during the war, she always looked well-groomed, with her signature hairstyle and lipstick.
Nina Usachova is survived by her daughter and granddaughters.
