Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Pyast was killed in action on November 18, 2023, during a battle near the village of Novoprokopivka in Zaporizhzhia region. He was 36 years old.
Oleksandr was born in the settlement of Bylbasivka in the Kramatorsk district. He graduated from Vocational Schools No. 15 and No. 56.
In 2015, he was mobilized and served in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone, defending Ukraine.
Later, he worked at the Energomashspetsstal plant in Kramatorsk. In 2018, he joined the Armed Forces on a contract basis and returned to the plant in 2021.
In the first days of the full-scale invasion, Oleksandr voluntarily reported to the military enlistment office. In early March 2022, he was called up for service. He served as the deputy commander of a reconnaissance group in a special forces company.
He was awarded the Presidential Badge “For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation,” the “For the Defense of Ukraine” decoration, the Commander of the Joint Forces Award “For Bravery and Loyalty,” and the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine.”
Oleksandr was laid to rest in his native village.
He is survived by his three children, mother, brother, and grandmother.
