On May 13, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission in Mariupol, 49-year-old Junior Sergeant Volodymyr Pliasheshko, call sign Kum, was killed.
The combat group he was part of came under enemy artillery fire.
Volodymyr was born in Mariupol. He studied at School No. 65, graduated from a vocational school, and received a qualification as a bricklayer. He worked at the Illich Iron and Steel Works.
Since June 2016, he had served in the ranks of the Border Guard Service, ensuring the protection of the state border in the area of the 1st Border Detachment. He took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). From February 24, 2022, together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Azov Special Operations Detachment, he carried out combat missions in Mariupol.
“I am incredibly proud that my father was who he was. His experience, example, and strength will always live within me. Although my father is no longer physically with us, he will forever remain in my memory and heart,” said his son Vadym.
Volodymyr Pliasheshko was awarded the Order “For Courage” (3rd Class, posthumously).
