14-year-old Yuliia Aksenchenko was killed on June 27, 2023, when Russian forces launched missile strikes on the center of Kramatorsk and the village of Bilenke.
The Ria café, residential buildings, and other premises were at the epicenter of the explosion. The attack claimed 12 lives. Yuliia’s twin sister, Anna, was also killed alongside her.
Yuliia had completed the 8th grade at School No. 24 in Kramatorsk. She would have turned 15 on September 4, 2023. Yuliia loved animals. Together with her sister, she enjoyed filming videos for social media, taking photos, and simply spending time together.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, the sisters moved from Kramatorsk to a safer place. However, just a few days before the tragedy, they returned to their hometown.
“Anna and Yuliia were diligent students and talented at drawing, so they helped decorate the school for celebrations. They were twins and looked very much alike, though their personalities were different. Ania was more outspoken, while Yulia was quieter. Ania always supported and helped her,” said Liudmyla Osadcha, the principal of their school.
“The girls were very sociable, kind, and always helped my daughter with homework. Since classes were online, they mostly communicated in chats. This year, they were placed in the same class. They were so cheerful…” — shared Maryna, whose daughter studied with the Aksenchenko sisters.
Yuliia and Anna are survived by their parents.
