The life of 50-year-old Maksym Stashevskyi was taken by a Russian strike on the city of Kramatorsk on September 25, 2024. He was at home with his wife and two daughters when an enemy missile struck the wall of their apartment.
Maksym’s parents are from the town of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast. They moved to Russia’s Murmansk Oblast under a state assignment, where Maksym was born. He grew up there, finished school, and obtained higher education, first at a pedagogical university. He earned a degree as a physical education teacher and was a Candidate for Master of Sports. After completing his compulsory military service, he studied at an agricultural university and obtained a specialty as a zoo engineer. In 2000, he moved to Ukraine. He was an entrepreneur and later worked as a marketing specialist at a jewelry factory in Kramatorsk.
“Maksym loved working in the vegetable garden and the orchard, where he planted fruit trees and grapes—he truly enjoyed that work. He was very skilled at ice skating, went skiing, and played hockey. But his greatest passion was music, especially playing the accordion. In 2023, he enrolled in a music school. Together with his daughter Vira, they performed as a duo and often took part in city events. Maksym was the life of the party. Everyone loved him—friends, colleagues, neighbors. As if sensing his death, two weeks before the tragedy he called all his acquaintances… Always smiling and kind, for him the children and I were everything. He did everything for us. We miss him terribly; this is a great loss for us,” his wife Olena said.
Maksym is survived by his wife Olena, his daughters Vira, Liuba, and Sofia, as well as other relatives and friends.
