Leonid Skumatov was fatally wounded by an enemy drone in Myrnohrad on September 19, 2025, and died the next morning. He was 69 years old.
He was born on October 9, 1955, in Luhansk region. For many years, he worked at the Centralna mine. Leonid was a pastor of the Evangelical Christian Baptist Church in Myrnohrad. He helped the sick and those in need; in early September 2025, he transported the severely wounded to the hospital and took care of providing medicine and food for local residents.
“We begged him to leave, but Father refused — there were many lonely people in the city who needed help. He prayed and fasted for Myrnohrad,”
said his daughter, Daria.
In one of his final messages, he wrote:
“Everything I had — my strength and my heart — I devoted to serving God and people… I walked the path of labor and sacrifice, seeking not earthly praise but a crown in heaven.”
Leonid was buried in Myrnohrad, near the place where he was wounded. He is survived by his wife, five children, and grandchildren.
