Nationwide minute of silence

Published 20 March 2026 year, 09:00

Senior Soldier Edisher Kvaratskhelia, call sign “Kvara,” was killed on October 10, 2022, as a result of blast injuries sustained during combat near the settlement of Bilohorivka in Luhansk region. He was 44 years old.

Edisher was born in the city of Chkhorotsku, Georgia. He graduated from Tbilisi State University. He was a professional soldier and served in the Armed Forces of Georgia. In 2008, he defended his homeland against Russian aggression. When the Russian-Ukrainian war began, he decided to help fight the enemy. He came to Ukraine and stood in its defense, taking part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation.

He served in the 25th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion “Kyivska Rus,” part of the 54th Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa. He held the position of rifleman and assistant grenade launcher operator.

For his service, he was awarded a medal for participation in the battles at the Svitlodarsk arc, the “For Exemplary Service” badge, and the medal “For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine.”

“A brave warrior, a true man, and a fighter for freedom. He defended his native Georgia. In 2015, he came to save Ukraine, which he loved above all else. From that time, he never returned home. A true master of his craft, a sapper you were never afraid to walk with through mined fields. The embodiment of a true friend and brother-in-arms. Always cheerful, always smiling. He would say: ‘Sister, everything is fine.’ An irreparable loss — a true fighter for freedom,” said Olha Alimova, the wife of his closest friend.

The Georgian volunteer was laid to rest in his homeland, in the city of Tsalenjikha.

Edisher is survived by his son, daughter, mother, relatives, friends, and fellow soldiers.

At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial platform honor those killed by Russian forces from Donetsk region.
