67-year-old Serhii Antonets was killed on April 4, 2022, in the Livoberezhnyi district of Mariupol.
He was returning home after an exhausting hospital shift when he came under shelling. He sustained fatal shrapnel wounds.
Serhii was a well-known urologist in Mariupol, having worked for many years at City Hospital No. 4. He was also a participant in the liquidation of the Chornobyl disaster: in 1986, he voluntarily joined the 1st medical detachment formed in Mariupol. As early as May 8, he was providing assistance to the population, organizing evacuations in the exclusion zone. He received a significant dose of radiation, which led to disability, yet he continued working.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, when the hospital was nearly abandoned by its staff, he remained and continued to help Mariupol residents.
He was a passionate mountaineer, musician, and a loving husband and father.
His body was found and buried by his wife 10 days later. He was laid to rest at the Novotroitske Cemetery.
