Senior Sergeant Serhii Sedakov, callsign “Molniya” (“Lightning”), was killed on April 12, 2022, while carrying out a mission near the seaport of Mariupol. He was 61 years old.
He was born on September 10, 1960, in the village of Demianivka. After completing military training in Desna in 1979, he fought in Afghanistan with a reconnaissance battalion and took part in the assault on Tajbeg Palace. Upon returning home, he worked as a driver and artistic director of a local club — he formed a music band and recorded an album of his own songs.
In the 2000s, Serhii moved to Mangush, where he worked as a tour bus driver for 15 years. In 2017, he joined the Azov Regiment: at first, he armored an MT-LB vehicle, later becoming a driving instructor. He was awarded medals for “Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation,” “Joint Forces Operation,” “Valor and Loyalty,” “Combat Merit,” and others.
He loved rock and jazz music, especially the Ukrainian bands Boombox and Bez Obmezhen. After turning 60, he renewed his contract, becoming the first senior sergeant in the National Guard of Ukraine to do so. He held his position in a high-rise building, which was later destroyed.
Posthumously, he was awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sons.
