Senior sailor Volodymyr Khranovskyi, nicknamed Lysyi, died on December 3, 2023, in the Kherson region near the village of Krynky. He suffered a fatal shrapnel wound during a combat mission. The defender was 25 years old.
Volodymyr was born in Mariupol. He graduated from the local mechanical and metallurgical college. He was a master of sports of Ukraine in water polo. In 2020, he received a bachelor's degree from Berdiansk University of Management and Business. The following year, he completed a master's degree at Mariupol State University in the educational program “Physical Culture,” and then joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For over seven years, Volodymyr worked as a diver at a metallurgical plant. He was awarded a prize for implementing proposals aimed at reducing costs and increasing operational efficiency. In the summer of 2021, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in a special forces unit,“ said his civilian wife, Margarita Yurchuk. ”He brought light to everyone around him. He was cheerful, lively, always ready to support and help."
During the full-scale invasion, the defender defended Ukraine as part of the 73rd Marine Center of the Special Operations Forces named after Ataman Antin Golovaty. He was an operator in the 3rd detachment command group.
Volodymyr's unit worked in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
“Together with his brothers-in-arms, he was returning from a mission and stumbled upon an enemy tripwire. Unfortunately, the wound to his chest was fatal,” Margarita explained.
Volodymyr was awarded the Honorary Distinction “For the Defense of Mykolaiv,” the “War Veteran” medal, the President of Ukraine's Distinction “For the Defense of Ukraine,” and posthumously, the Order “For Courage” III degree.
The defender was buried in the Alley of Heroes in the city of Bucha, Kyiv region.
He is survived by his common-law wife, parents, and younger sister.
At 9:00 a.m., there will be a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform will commemorate the fallen defenders from Donetsk Oblast.
