Nationwide minute of silence

Published 25 December 2025 year, 09:00

Junior Lieutenant Oleksandr Borovyi (call sign “Bur”) was killed on December 30, 2024, near the settlement of Rozdolne in Volnovakha District.

While covering his fellow soldiers in battle, he sustained fatal wounds as a result of an enemy FPV drone attack. The officer was 36 years old.

Oleksandr was born in the city of Pokrovsk. After graduating from a lyceum, he entered the National Mining University in Dnipro, majoring in Computer Science. He was also fond of football and basketball.

In 2010, Oleksandr was conscripted into the army and served in the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade stationed in Dnipro. After completing his service, he lived there for some time before returning to Pokrovsk. He initially worked as head of the computer department at Ekomarket, and in 2013–2014 joined a partner division of Nova Poshta. He also tried his hand as a sales representative, but in 2017 officially joined Nova Poshta as an operator.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling in his grandfather’s car.

“We went to Berdiansk, Avdiivka, and the Kinburn Spit. He also loved quiet отдых—movies and games. He adored his cat, a little black kitten named Pyrozhok,” recalled his father, Viktor Yevhenovych.

Oleksandr was mobilized in late December 2023. He completed extensive officer training and joined the 23rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. In 2024, the brigade took up defensive positions near Pokrovsk. Bur became a rifle platoon commander and, together with his comrades, held back the enemy’s advance on the Pokrovsk direction for three months.

“He was very optimistic, cheerful, and loved communicating. For him, there were no bad people—at most, just ‘quirky’ ones. He liked working at Nova Poshta because he enjoyed working with people and because everything there was by the rules—honest and fair. He quickly made friends with colleagues and clients. Even after Sasha was mobilized, colleagues and clients kept sending greetings for another year. Everything came easily to him; his manager wanted to recommend him for the position of head of a new branch that was to open. Sasha planned his future there…

The soldiers who came to the funeral said it was a drone attack and that Sasha saved his comrades at the cost of his own life. He was well prepared. Thanks to Nova Poshta, he had good gear—a helmet, body armor, tactical accessories. He was very proud of it, saying no one else had such stylish equipment. But it didn’t save him,” his mother, Iryna Oleksandrivna, shared.

Bur was buried with honors at the Alley of Glory in the city of Samar, Dnipropetrovsk Region, where his parents now live.

He is survived by his parents and his older brother Kostiantyn, who is also defending Ukraine on the front line.

At 9:00 a.m. — a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial of Heroes platform honor the fallen defenders of Donetsk Region.
