Soldier Oleksii Ustymenko died on September 3, 2024, as a result of an enemy missile strike on the Institute of Communications in Poltava. He was 48 years old.
Oleksii was born in Sloviansk. He graduated from 9th grade at Secondary School No. 6. He then continued his education in a special physics and mathematics class at the Pedagogical University. He later graduated from Sloviansk State Pedagogical University with a degree in mathematics and computer science. He first worked at a chalk and lime factory, then at the State Treasury. His longest job was at Privatbank, where Oleksii worked as an equipment maintenance engineer.
After the full-scale Russian invasion began, he moved to Kyiv. Oleksii was mobilized at the end of June 2024. He underwent initial training in Zhytomyr, and then was transferred to Poltava to study as a telephone operator-line supervisor in the communications department of the logistics battalion of the 153rd Separate Mechanized Brigade.
The defender was buried in his hometown at the cemetery on Danylo Halytsky Street.
At 9:00 a.m., there will be a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform commemorate the fallen defenders from Donetsk Oblast.
