38-year-old Alona Loiko was killed on March 13, 2022, due to Russian shelling of the "Azov-Arsenal" company building in Mariupol.
"On March 13, a shell hit the building. Alona and another woman were killed. Alona was under the rubble; two of our employees extracted her body only a month later and handed it over to her relatives," said Mykhailo Lysenko, who was Alona Loiko's supervisor.
Alona was born and raised in Luhansk. In 2014, due to Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine, she moved to Mariupol, settling in the Kalmiuskyi district. Following the start of the full-scale war, she relocated to the Tsentralnyi district.
Starting March 5, 2022, she was taking shelter from the shelling in the office of the "Azov-Arsenal" enterprise. Alona worked there, having previously served as a logistics specialist at the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
"Alona remains in our memory as a versatile, highly responsible, and professional person. She was wonderful, an example to many of her colleagues. She rode a bicycle to work and had excellent knowledge of computer technology," recalled Mykhailo Lysenko.
"Alona was kind and bright. She always stood up for her opinions and views. Once, she found a sick cat at our workplace, organized a fund, and used the money to cure the animal," remembered her colleague Svitlana Hliebova.
Alona Loiko is survived by her parents.
