National moment of silence

Published 26 October 2025 year, 09:00

Marine Vadym Surkov was killed on July 16, 2024, near Vovchansk: on his way back from a position, he sustained fatal injuries from a mortar strike. He was 47 years old.

Vadym was born and raised in Chystiakove, where he was passionate about football and boxing. He graduated from a technical college as an electric locomotive operator but couldn’t find work in his field, so he became a miner. Later he married and had a daughter. In 2000, he moved to Kyiv, where he worked as a delivery agent at MegaMaksi, then as a logistics specialist and warehouse manager at Delivery, and since 2017 — at Nova Poshta.

He loved the sea, traveling, skiing, and long walks with his family.

Vadym received his draft notice on his birthday — February 9, 2023. He served in the 36th Separate Marine Brigade as an anti-tank systems operator in the fire support company. After training, he was deployed to Urozhaine, later among the first to storm Krynky, where he was seriously wounded. Following rehabilitation, he returned to service. Later, the brigade was redeployed from Kherson region to Kharkiv region.

He dreamed that after victory, he would buy an apartment (his home in his native city was lost to occupation) and return to work at Nova Poshta.

Vadym was buried in Kyiv. He is survived by his daughter and relatives.

At 9:00 — the national moment of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
