Soldier Vladyslav Korchyha, callsign Hipster, was killed on December 22, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Novoyehorivka in the Luhansk region. In November, the defender had turned 25.
Vladyslav was born in the city of Mariupol. In 2019, he began studying at the Faculty of Jazz Arts at the Dnipro Academy of Music, where he played the saxophone. However, after the start of the full-scale invasion, he took an academic leave from the conservatory and decided not to return to music. Around the same time, he and his girlfriend moved to Kyiv. He worked as a barista, making the most delicious coffee. He loved hiking and often traveled through the Carpathians with his girlfriend. The couple adopted a dog from a shelter, which sparked Vladyslav’s interest in cynology (canine studies).
Alongside his work, he was preparing to join the military: he attended training courses, exercised regularly, and took care of his health. He was highly motivated.
In June 2024, Vladyslav became a recruit and underwent training with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. In the autumn, he signed a contract and joined the Armed Forces. He served as a grenadier in an assault battalion.
“He was a person who was not afraid of responsibility, who did not shy away from difficulties, and who always moved forward. His love was quiet but strong—love for life, for Ukraine, for me, and for those close to him. Vlad dreamed of peace, but went to fight for it. He had a special gift: remaining true to himself no matter what. He spoke his mind and was not afraid of the truth. His friends still remember his words, which help them through difficult moments. Vlad was someone impossible to forget, someone remembered with both pride and tenderness. And although he is no longer physically here, he remains in everything that matters to me,” said the defender’s fiancée, Ksenia.
During his lifetime, the warrior asked that his body be cremated if he were killed, and that his ashes be scattered over Mount Pip Ivan.
Vladyslav is survived by his parents and his fiancée.
