Junior Sergeant Daniil Hanych, call sign “Faza,” was killed in action on May 28, 2025, during a combat mission in the village of Bilousivka, Sumy region. An enemy “Lancet” drone struck the defenders’ position. He was 30 years old.
Daniil was born in the settlement of Kontarne, Horlivka district, and lived in the city of Pokrovsk. After school, he entered Donetsk National Technical University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He was interested in music and worked as a deputy section mechanic at PJSC “Pokrovske Mine Administration.”
Daniil defended Ukraine’s independence during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), and when the full-scale invasion began, he again joined the Armed Forces. He fought in the ranks of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. His comrades gave him the call sign “Faza” because of his love for mechanics and electricity.
“Daniil was a brave and courageous man who fought for his native land until his last breath. He wanted to live in a free country,” wrote his wife, Iryna Hanych.
The defender was awarded the badge “For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation,” and posthumously — the commander’s distinction of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade and the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class.
He was laid to rest in the Alley of Heroes at Lisove Cemetery in Kyiv.
Daniil is survived by his wife, son, mother, and sister.
At 9:00 a.m. — a nationwide minute of silence.
