43-year-old Halyna Yevdokymova was killed on March 20, 2022, in an apartment building on Arkhyp Kuindzhi Street in Mariupol.
In March 2022, Halyna and her 18-year-old son were sheltering in the basement of an apartment building on Kuindzhi Street. The area was under constant shelling. On March 20, a shell hit Halyna's building.
"During the shelling, a concrete slab collapsed from the 5th to the 4th floor at 88 Kuindzhi Street. Halya was with the Potykhach family; they had just gone up to the apartment to get some food. All three were killed. Her son Bohdan miraculously survived. He was walking up behind them but had lagged slightly behind on the stairs," said Liliya Yevdokymova, the sister of Halyna's former husband.
A few days later, the building burned down. After active combat ended, no remains were found there. In the summer of 2022, the building was demolished. Halyna's mother did not learn about the tragedy for another three months.
Halyna Yevdokymova was born and raised in Mariupol. She worked as the head of the laboratory in the Tourism Department at Pryazovskyi State Technical University.
She was raising a son.
"She was a loving mother and daughter who deeply respected her parents. She was sensitive to other people's grief and always ready to help," recalled Liliya Yevdokymova.
"Halya was awarded the 'Best Mentor' certificate in 2021. She was cheerful, kind, and positive," shared her former classmate Nataliia Khromets.
"Halyochka. Our neighbor. A very beautiful girl. She has a wonderful son. She would always say hello. Halya and I often talked when she was walking her dog. What can I say... good people are leaving us," said her neighbor Raisa.
Halyna Yevdokymova is survived by her son, sister, and mother.
