The life of Tetiana Cherepnia was taken by a Russian strike on the village of Novoselydivka in the Pokrovsk district around 15 November 2024. She and her neighbors were sheltering from the attacks in the basement of a residential building.
One of the neighbors stepped outside and was killed. When the others later came out, intending to bury the man, another strike began. Seven people were killed.
Tetiana was 69 years old. She was born in Kurakhivka, Pokrovsk district. She graduated from Donetsk State University. Tetiana worked as a teacher of mathematics and geography, and also as the deputy principal at the Novoselydivka eight-year school. Later, she headed the school and led it for 18 years. She retired in 2003.
“When I think of Tetiana Mykolaivna, the word justice comes to mind immediately. She was a very fair person. I studied at the school when Tetiana Mykolaivna was the principal. Our school — now a gymnasium — is 88 years old, and it has always been Ukrainian-speaking. At a time when almost all surrounding schools were Russian-speaking, Tetiana Mykolaivna always defended our school and never allowed it to be switched to Russian,” said the current principal of the gymnasium, Nataliia Verkhovska.
“A person of great duty and soul, of profound fairness and responsibility, of integrity and humanity. Even after she retired, she continued to live the life of the school: she advised the young leadership and was active in community work,” another colleague recalled.
