On July 30, an off-site roundtable meeting titled “Veterans Policy: Honor and Respect!” was held in Dnipro. The event was organized by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and the Protection of Veterans' Rights.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, regional military administrations, members of parliament, representatives of civil society organizations, and family members of fallen Heroes.
During the event, participants discussed pressing issues facing the veteran community, potential solutions, and the need to strengthen cooperation between state institutions and public organizations to ensure respect, support, and a dignified life for all defenders of Ukraine.
Donetsk region was represented by Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Shevchenko. In his address, he outlined the current state of veteran policy implementation in the region and emphasized the importance of supporting veterans.
A dedicated working group operates in Donetsk region, convening monthly to assess the needs of veterans and families of the fallen, and to help them access essential services and support.
The region also systematically implements the national policy of commemorating the memory of Heroes who died defending Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. In cooperation with territorial communities, the Regional State Administration has collected and processed available information about burial sites of fallen Ukrainian defenders.
“We understand that most of our veterans and families of fallen Heroes are internally displaced persons. However, our military administrations continue to care for them and provide additional social guarantees from local budgets — because these are our people,” said Oleksandr Shevchenko.
This event marked another step toward building a national policy grounded in respect, gratitude, and responsibility to those who have defended and continue to defend Ukraine.
