Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine commemorates the victims of the Holodomor. On the eve of this solemn date, November 21, the Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History held a thematic webinar for cultural workers in Donetsk Oblast entitled «Museums of Memory: Preserving the History of the Holodomor,» dedicated to the specifics of museum work that tells about the tragedy of 1932–1933 and other Holodomors.
The purpose of the event was to familiarize participants with contemporary approaches to exhibitions, educational practices, and memorial representations of the Holodomor. The webinar also emphasized the important role of museums in shaping historical memory and counteracting its distortion.
The speaker was Roman Moldavsky, PhD in History, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Oral History of the Holodomor at the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.
The conversation focused on the key areas of activity of Ukraine’s leading museum as a memorial and educational center, which not only preserves the memory of the crime but also consistently proves to the world why the Holodomor is an act of genocide. The participants showed considerable interest in the part devoted to the museum’s educational work, in particular initiatives that contribute to the formation of a responsible and informed generation through the study of the history of the Holodomor.
