Vadym Filashkin’s Address on the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism

Published 08 May 2026 year, 08:52

Victory never comes on its own. Someone always has to fight for it.

Eighty-one years ago, the world defeated Nazism — at the cost of millions of lives, destroyed cities, and generations who endured war. Ukraine became one of the main battlefields, and Ukrainians were among those who stopped evil.

It seemed humanity would remember this lesson forever.

But today, we once again see missiles striking cities, destroyed homes, deportations, torture chambers, and attempts to erase an entire nation. And once again, Ukrainians stand in the way of new aggression.

We know well: freedom is never given once and for all. It must always be fought for and always defended.

Today, we honor all those who fought against Nazism during World War II. And we thank our warriors who are defending Ukraine right now.

Because the struggle continues. And our victory will be just as hard-earned and long-awaited as it was then — but it will surely come.

We remember! We will prevail!
