At the recommendation of the Economic and Social Council, in 1997 the UN General Assembly proclaimed June 26 as the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
According to the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/52/149 of December 12, 1997, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed annually and is aimed at eradicating torture and ensuring the effective implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
Today, a huge number of people are in Russian captivity - both military and civilian. Russian inhuman beings deliberately inflict suffering on Ukrainians, enjoying torture and killings. Our captives there resemble prisoners of concentration camps.
The horrific event of the mass execution of Ukrainian captive fighters of "Azov," who were held by Russian military in a prison in the occupied village of Olenivka in Donetsk, has occurred. In this way, the Russian Federation decided to conceal the abuse of captives and the shootings carried out under the orders of the occupation administration and the command of the Russian Federation.
This pain: inhumane torture and the execution of the defenders of Mariupol - is impossible to accept today or in the future.
All of the above constitutes genocide against the Ukrainian people.
We call on the global community and international organizations to consolidate efforts to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and force it to comply with its international legal obligations, including the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and the relevant European Convention.
