On June 26, 2014, a series of shelling and an assault by Russian terrorists on checkpoint No. 1, located in the area of the village of Myrne and also known as the "Rybhoz" checkpoint, took place on the outskirts of Sloviansk.
Using tanks and other heavy equipment, the militants shelled the checkpoint, resulting in the deaths of Ukrainian soldiers. This was one of the most severe events at the beginning of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war in Donetsk region.
Checkpoint No. 1, located on the northwestern outskirts of Sloviansk near the village of Myrne, suffered a massive shelling from tanks and mortars and an assault by terrorists. As a result of the battle, four Ukrainian soldiers were killed: Vashchuk Ihor Oleksandrovych, Hulyk Artur Yaroslavovych, Dobrianskyi Maksym Serhiyovych, Kogan Andrii Ihorovych.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine dated August 14, 2014, No. 651/2014, for personal courage and heroism displayed in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Order of "For Courage" III degree (posthumously) was awarded to: Vashchuk Ihor Oleksandrovych – soldier; Dobrianskyi Maksym Serhiyovych - senior soldier; Kogan Andrii Ihorovych – sergeant.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine dated September 8, 2014, No. 708/2014, for personal courage and heroism displayed in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Hulyk Artur Yaroslavovych - reserve soldier was awarded the Order of "For Courage" III degree (posthumously).
