The education system in Donetsk Oblast continues to operate and provide children with knowledge, demonstrating the resilience of the educational front despite security risks, constant threats of shelling, and humanitarian challenges.
Sixty-four preschool institutions remain open for 2,800 children. Since the children are studying from home, learning will take place in a playful and interactive online format together with teachers and parents. Two relocated preschool institutions from the Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk city territorial communities are providing in-person educational services to nearly 80 students in Dnipro and Perechyn.
For older preschoolers (ages 5–6), English is becoming a mandatory subject this year.
194 schools in Donetsk Oblast are operating remotely, providing students with access to quality education from various parts of Ukraine and from abroad, where families with children were forced to evacuate. At the same time, six general secondary schools from the Mariupol, Kramatorsk, and Prokrovsk communities—which have relocated to safer regions of Ukraine—have warmly welcomed students in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Poltava, and Khmelnytskyi regions, as well as in Kyiv. A total of 1,800 first-graders have been enrolled in first grade.
Teachers in the Donetsk region have adapted their curricula to today’s realities, ensuring not only that students meet state standards but also providing them with psychological support. Despite technical difficulties related to power outages and communication disruptions, educational institutions are doing their utmost to maintain strong contact with every student.
The Donetsk Oblast education system continues to operate during the 2026–2027 school year, demonstrating the resilience of Ukrainian teachers, students, and parents, for whom the right to knowledge remains an unwavering value.
