As part of the national project "Side by Side: United Communities," the Irkliiv Cultural and Leisure Center hosted St. Andrew's Eve celebrations with the participation of children from the Shakhovska rural community, an outpost community.
The feast day of St. Andrew the First-Called has long combined church and folk traditions. On this evening, young people performed fortune-telling rituals, joked, and participated in fun ceremonies. The main entertainment was Kalita, a symbol of prosperity and goodness.
During the evening gatherings, the children learned about Ukrainian customs, tried their hand at rituals and fun activities, learned how to knead dough and make varenyky with surprises, and then enjoyed eating them together.
Sincere laughter, games, and a warm atmosphere created the true magic of the Ukrainian holiday.
Participants also visited the Heroes' Walk of Fame and honored the memory of the defenders who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence and freedom.
Children should have a childhood.
Let's learn and preserve Ukrainian customs — they are our spiritual treasure and the force that unites generations.
