A special-purpose police battalion (anti-drone unit), established within the structure of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast, has been operating near the front lines in Donetsk Oblast for five months now. The unit’s main task is to protect civilian infrastructure.

In particular, police officers provide security for repair crews during restoration work on critical infrastructure facilities.

The officers counter enemy drones using a comprehensive approach: they either shoot down aerial targets or neutralize them using electronic warfare.

“We neutralize drones using both radio control and fiber-optic signals. We have shot down ‘Lancets,’ ‘Gerberas,’ ‘Geraniums,’ FPVs, and others. In total, 4,096 enemy drones have been destroyed,” said Artem Shchus, commander of the anti-drone battalion.

The battalion consists of Donetsk region police officers as well as patrol police. The officers have undergone special training: handling pump-action shotguns and automatic weapons, electronic warfare systems, and tactical medical care.

The fighters hone their reaction times and accuracy on a VR simulator in real time and under conditions as close as possible to combat.
