The Uman and Avdiivka communities continue to develop their partnership as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities.” The working visit to Uman by Yevhen Udovenko, head of the Avdiivka City Military Administration, was dedicated not only to meeting with Avdiivka residents but also to developing joint solutions with the Uman community.
After personally meeting with residents and visiting the Veterans’ Homes, where elderly Avdiivka residents live, Yevhen Udovenko held a working meeting with Uman Mayor Iryna Pletnyova and city council members.
Key areas of cooperation include cultural exchange, promoting the traditions of both communities, and organizing joint events that will help strengthen the partnership and unity among Ukrainians, provide health and wellness programs for children, and identify additional opportunities to secure housing for internally displaced persons.
The parties agreed to explore the possibility of sending children from the Avdiivka community to health camps during the upcoming summer season. Such cooperation will expand recreational opportunities for children who have lost their familiar living environment due to the war.
Special attention was given to the state program “A House in the Village,” which could become one of the solutions to the housing issue for internally displaced persons. The heads of neighboring rural communities joined the working discussion via telephone. It was agreed that they would assist in finding houses that could potentially meet the program’s criteria and the needs of the displaced persons.
Another focus of the talks was the possibility of involving international partners in cooperation with the Avdiivka community. Yevhen Udovenko and Iryna Pletnyova discussed the prospects for expanding international contacts.
During the meeting, in recognition of their significant contribution to supporting the Avdiivka community and its residents, Yevhen Udovenko presented representatives of the Uman City Council with the Avdiivka City Military Administration’s “For Merit to the Community” award.
For the Avdiivka community—whose residents were forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression—it is important to develop partnerships that help not only address immediate needs but also create new opportunities for people.
