As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” residents of Bakhmut joined in the preparations for Ukraine’s Independence Day in Poltava.
Together with representatives of communities from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the Poltava City Community’s Center for Culture and Leisure, they discussed the creation of an art space to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
It will open in Poltava on August 23. The Bakhmut, Illinivka, Hirsk, and Aidar communities—which are currently operating temporarily in Poltava—will present their own exhibits. Each will share stories about their community through history, culture, creative workshops, and interactive activities.
One of the key events will be the unveiling of the “Freedom” installation on Ukraine’s Independence Day, created by the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the meeting, they agreed on the event format, community participation, and organizational details. They also discussed further cooperation within the “Side by Side” initiative—ranging from cultural and educational initiatives to joint civic and sports projects.
