On the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the troupe of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre (Mariupol) presented a special premiere to the children of the Donetsk region. At the «Pearl of Donetsk Region» children’s and youth complex, which is currently providing health and recreation programmes for young locals in the Carpathians, a performance of the musical action piece «The Power of the Wild Field» took place.
The production was created as part of national and patriotic education. Through an adventure-filled plot involving time travel, the play uses the language of art to reveal to the younger generation the profound meaning of Ukrainian identity and resilience.
The play draws an invisible thread between the Cossack era and the present day. The Wild Field is portrayed not merely as a story, but as a symbol of the formation of the Ukrainian character, courage, love of freedom and mutual aid.
The finale of the performance particularly emphasises the continuity between generations: today’s defenders of Ukraine are presented as the direct heirs to the glorious traditions of the renowned warriors of the past. This message helps children to gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for history, to take pride in their country, and to feel a personal connection to its future.
The children’s genuine emotions and empathy for the heroes were the best proof that culture speaks to the younger generation in a language they feel in their hearts.
Ukraine’s true strength lies in the memory we cherish and in the children who are discovering their history and heritage today, so that tomorrow they may build a strong, free and independent nation.
